With reference to your confidential
despatch of the 21st October, 1932, on the subject
of dredging in the vicinity of the Hong Kong & Kowloon
Wharf and Godown Company's piers, I have the honour to
inform you that after full consideration of the matter
and consultation with my Executive Council I have
decided that it will be sufficient if the dredging is
undertaken to a depth of thirty-four feet, six inches.]
The Commodore in Charge and the Company have raised
no objection to this depth. They have also agreed
to pay for the cost of dredging those parts of the
area in the immediate vicinity of their respective
properties.

The estimated cost, so far as this Government
is concerned, of the dredging only, is $320,000. In
addition there is the cost of dumping dredged material.
It is proposed to form a dumping ground at Kun Tong,
as shown coloured red on the plan enclosed. This will
be a dumping ground not only for this particular piece
of dredging but also for the city refuse. It is well
removed from urban districts and when completed will
form a large reclaimed area, a possible use for which
is an offensive trades area. In view of the fact that
the benefit of this reclaimed area will accrue exclusively
